CATS FROM URANUS is becoming a game

For the last several months I've been building a bunch of experimental interactive pieces around three ebooks/projects.

ClearCAM, The Diminuto Archives, and FOREVER:NEON.

They were originally separate experiments.

ClearCAM had scanning and media-analysis ideas.
Diminuto's Archive had the increasingly questionable science of identifying Cats From Uranus.
FOREVER:NEON had the larger SubstrateNet world, ARG systems, field equipment, strange signals, anomalous cats and anything else I've decided is a reasonable use of my remaining lifespan.

Thus was born this bastard creation I am tentatively calling CATS FROM URANUS: SUBSTRATE ARENA.

The basic idea is gloriously stupid and therefore probably worth pursuing:

Scan your cat. Classify it. Turn it into a fighter. Battle other cats.

You can use a live camera, submit a photograph of your own cat, or choose one of the existing Archive Felids if you don't have a cat handy or simply don't want to submit an image.

The scanner examines six fictional field channels:

PURR / FIELD / CHROMA / PHASE / MASS / BEHAVIOR

Your cat is then filed as:

TERRAN / URANIAN / CONTAMINATED

From there it becomes a persistent Arena fighter with stats, abilities, a Field Rating, wins and losses, levels, titles and its own record in the Felid Registry.

The Arena is also starting to get its own control language. Instead of generic RPG buttons, combat is being rebuilt around a cat-paw interface, with individual toes acting as attacks, defenses and special abilities. Used abilities visibly discharge and recharge before becoming available again.

Because Cats From Uranus are frequently polydactyl, that particular evolutionary inconvenience may become mechanically useful.

This project also gives me a way to finally connect the three books without turning any of them into advertisements for the others.

ClearCAM approaches the world through observation and learning to question what you're seeing.

The Diminuto Archives provides the field research, cat behavior, chromatic states, dubious scientific methodology and a frankly irresponsible amount of Uranian zoology.

FOREVER:NEON contains the larger universe behind those anomalies, including the Substrate, dimensional events, Whodini and the deeper history that Diminuto probably should not have been allowed to investigate.

You do not need to have read any of the books to play.

But if you have, you're going to recognize things.

I'm putting together the first proper playtest build now. It is still early.

SCAN → CLASSIFY → REGISTER → BATTLE → PROGRESS

The current roster already includes a growing collection of real cats, including Athena, WildThang1, Vinnie, Poncho, Buttercup, Igor, Popcorn, Xemu, Renley as well as some fictional felines, with more coming.

Cat photographs and fighter records are intended to stay on your device unless a future feature explicitly asks you to share something. I don't want your data. I want to know whether your cat can beat another cat in extradimensional combat.

This ones restricted for the moment but if you are interested hit me up for the password.

CATS FROM URANUS
SCAN. CLASSIFY. TRAIN. BATTLE.
